Treve ‘Well’ After Vermeille Romp
Dual G1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Treve (Fr) (Motivator {GB}), who will go for a historic third renewal of that Longchamp contest in three weeks’ time, exited her victory in Sunday’s G1 Prix Vermeille in good order, according to trainer Criquette-Head Maarek.
“She is very well [Monday],” the Chantilly conditioner said. “She took the race well and is just having a walk in the yard. I knew before [Sunday] she was very well in herself and when she is like that, you see what she can do. She ran [Sunday] like she did when she won the Arc as a 3-year-old and it wasn’t a bad field.”
Treve has dropped to as low as even-money favoritism for the Oct. 4 Arc with some bookmakers, but Head-Maarek said she respects the competition, including Sunday’s G2 Prix Niel winner New Bay (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}).
“I was looking at the betting and I see they have dropped her [odds] a lot–I think they are scared,” Head-Maarek said. “I hope they are right to be scared, but we still fear the colts. New Bay is a very good colt and you have the English horses coming as well–they will make her run.”
“She will have an easy week now and then it will be back to work and I am sure she will improve,” the trainer added. “She wasn’t short of work, but she was short of racing.”
